Seven Wonders of Cyprus

Cape Greco, also called the Cavo Greco or Greco Caves, is located on the southeastern portion of the island of Cyprus.  It is more specifically found in the Famagusta Bay. The Eastern side of hte island is famous for beautifu beaches and Cape Greco is a highlight of beauty in the area.

Stavrovouni Monastery is located atop the Stavrovouni hill and serves as a Greek Orthodox monastery. It originated in 329 AD and is one of the oldest monasteries in the world.

Kyrenia Castle is located at the tip of the harbor. It was a 16th century castle built as a defensive castle.

Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque, formally Saint Nicholas Cathedral, is the largest medieval construction in the country. It was built between 1298 and 1400. Launched as a Catholic cathedral in 1328, it fell to the Ottoman Empire and has been a mosque since.

Paphos Archaeological Park, also called Kato Pafos Archaeological Park, is found near Paphos Harbor. Elements of the site date back to prehistoric times through the middle ages. The park is still being excavated.

Hala Sultan Teeke, also called the Mosque of Umm Haran, is a muslim shrine located at the west side of Larnaca Salt Lake. Umm Haran was Muhammad's wet nurse.

Larnaca Salt Lake involves four interconnected lakes varying in sizes. The largest of the lakes is Aliki followed by Orphani, Soros, and Spiro. The total area encompasses 1 square mile (2.2 sq km). A famous place for viewing flamingos and the other 85 species of water birds.

Aphrodite's Rock, also called Petra tou Romiou, is a rock formation or sea stack off the coast of Cyprus. It is traditionally thought to be the mythological birthplace of Aphrodite.

The Tombs of the Kings is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It represents a large necropolis outside Paphos harbor.  The tombs date back to the 4th century BC and display Doric columns and frescoed walls.

The Bellapais Abbey Monastery, also called the "Abbeyof Peace," is an abandoned ruin, which was built in the 13th century by Canons Regular.  Today it serves as a museum and venue for concerts, festivals, and lectures.

Buyuk Han is a caravansarai located on the northern side of Cyprus. It is the largest caravansarai on the island and is renowned as one of the most intriguing buildings as well. It features galleries, cafes, and shops.

The Painted Churches of Troodos are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  There are 10 churches that feature Byzantine and post-Byzantine decor and murals.  They are located in teh Troodos Mountains.
