Seven Wonders of Iceland

Dettifoss is a spectacular waterfall located in Vatnajokull National Park.  It is recognized as the most powerful waterfall in Europe.  It reaches a height of 148 feet (45m) and extends across 330 feet (100 m).  It is the largest waterfall in Europe based on volume of flow.

Godafoss is a waterfall located in the northern central part of the country. It extends across 98 feet (30 m) and reaches a height of 39 feet (12 m). It is one of the most beautiful scenes in Iceland.

The Aurora Borealis is a natural light phenomenon that occurs in both the northern and southern hemispheres as you approach the poles. The Aurora Borealis is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.

The Strokkur Geyser is a geothermal feature located in the southwest part of Iceland. It erupts every 4 to 8 minutes and reaches heights from 49 to 131 feet (15 to 40 m). It is a fountain geyser and one of Iceland’s most popular attractions.

Vatnajokull, also call Vatna Glacier, is the largest glacier in the country and one of the largest in Europe. Covering 8% of the country, it is found on the southeastern side. It is the largest in Europe based on volume. One of the highlights are the ice caves which attract many visitors.

Hallgrimskirkja Cathedral, or church of Hallgrimur), is a Lutheran church located in Reykjavik. It reaches a height of 244 feet (73 m) making it the tallest church in the country and the sixth tallest structure. The building was completed in 1986.

Selfoss waterfall is located on the river Jokulsa a Fjollum on the north side of the country. It reaches a height of 98 feet (30 m). This is the precursor for the Dettifoss.

The Blue Lagoon is a geothermal spa found near the lava field in Grindavik. The waters of the geothermal spa have a wealth of silica, sulphur, and other minerals. Temperatures average 98-102oF (37-39oC)

Harpa Concert Hall is found in Reykjavik. The first concert was delivered on May 4th 2011. It also serves as a conference center. The Danish firm Henning Larsen Architects designed it.

Dynjandi is a collection of watefalls found in the Westfjords of the island. The falls reach a height of 330 feet (100 m). Arguably one of the most beautiful falls in the country.

Reynisdrangar is a collection of basalt sea stacks found on the southern side of the country. They create an aesthetically appealing view out over the ocean.

Seljalandsfoss is a waterfall found between Selfoss and Skogafoss. It reaches a height of 200 feet (60 m). Travelers can venture behind the falls for a different perspective. Featured in the Amazing Race 6.

Svartifoss is located in Vatnajokull National Park. The dark lava columns serve as a backdrop creating a stunning view of this waterfall. It is one of the most visited places in the park.

Blahver-Hveravellir (Blue Pool) is a geothermal feature located in the central highlands of the country. It is an incredibly aesthetic aerial view, while also offering great views across the water.

Kirkjufell Mountain is more appealing because of its isolated and unique presentation. It reaches a height of 1,519 feet (463 m). It is located on the northern coast of the Snaefellsnes peninsula.

Hvitserkur is a uniquely looking sea stack. It is located off the eastern shoreline. Travelers will probably also sea seals, which are common in the area. The sea stack reaches a height of 49 feet (15 m).
