Seven Wonders of Peru

Macho Picchu is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Peru. It is an Inca built in the 15^th century that is situated in the Machupicchu District.  It stands at 7,970 feet or 2,430 meters above sea level.

Chan Chan is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a city in Peru that is pre-Columbian. History says that the city was built by the kingdom of the Chimu called the Chimor. Chan Chan’s adobe city was built sometime in the AD850, and was the largest adobe city in the world back then.

Manu National Park has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1977. Situated in Madre de Dios, the park used to be naturally protected by its proximity and isolation, until the government started protecting it.

The Nazca Lines of Peru can be found in Peru’s Nazca Desert. The place features a dry plateau that is almost 50 miles (80 km) long, and lies between Palpa and Nazca. Experts believe the Nazca Lines came from the Nazca culture sometime in the 400 and 650 AD.

Santa Catalina Monastery is a monastery run by the Dominican Second order Nuns. The Monastery was built in 1579. Inspired by the Mudejar style, the monastery is known for its painted walls.

Lake Titicaca or Titiqaqa is South America’s largest lake, in terms of volume of water. It is situated along the border of Bolivia and Peru. Lake Titicaca is also known as the world’s highest navigable lake at an elevation of 12,507 feet (3,812 m).

Plaza de Armas means Weapons’ Square but is also translated as the Parade Ground or the Parade Square. The Plaza de Armas is usually the name of many Hispanic American cities’ main square.

Colca Canyon belongs to the Colca River found on the south side of Peru. The Canyon is Peru’s most frequented tourist destination as it gathers about 120,000 visitors every year. Colca Canyon has a depth of 13,650 feet (4,160 m), which is twice the Grand Canyon.

The Cathedral of Arequipa is located in the Plaza de Armas of the city of Arequipa. It is also considered one of Peru's most unusual and famous colonial cathedrals.

The Church Temple of the Company of Jesus is located on the plaza square. It features a huge cedar gold leaf covered alter.
