Seven Wonders of Argentina

These waterfalls are from the Iguazú River, situated on the border of Argentina. The falls divides the Iguazú river into two parts: the upper and the lower. The name Iguazú is derived from Guarani words that mean water and big.  There are over 275 falls that make up the falls with the hieghest point reaching 269 feet (82 m).

This world famous monument stands high in the Andes around 12, 572 feet (3,832 m), and lies on the border of Chile and Argentina. The Christ the Redeemer of Andes was unveiled in 1904 for the purpose of celebrating the resolution of Argentina and Chile’s border dispute, which ended peacefully.

This National Hirstoric Monument is an icon of Buenos Aires. The Obelisco de Buenos Aires was built for the purpose of commemorating the 400th year since the first foundation of the city. One of the initiatives was the creation of a zone full of LED signs, which is called the Punto Obelisco.

Los Glaciares National Park is a protected area that covers an area of 726,927 hectares, and is Argentina’s second largest national park. This UNESCO World Heritage Site was established in  1980. The park was named was derived from the giant ice cap found in the Andes range.

La Casa Rosada means the Pink House in English. This building is the official executive mansion of the President of Argentina, and serves as the office as well. The mansion is officially known as the Casa de Gobierno or the Government House. The President does not live here however, as they normally stay at the official residence called the Quinta de Olivos in Buenos Aires.

The Teatro Colón or the Columbus Theatre is Buenos Aires’ main opera house. This theatre is acoustically considered to be one of the top five in the world. There was an original theatre which was opened in 1857 but that was replaced 20 years later by the theatre that still stands today.

The La Recoleta Cemetery is one of Buenos Aires’ cemeteries located in the neighborhood of Recoleta. This cemetery is home to famous personalities that include presidents, Nobel winners, and the granddaughter of Napoleon. BBC has dubbed the La Recoleta Cemetery as one of the best cemeteries in the world in 2011.

The Buenos Aires Metropolitan Cathedral is centered in the city and is Buenos Aires’ main Catholic Church. The cathedral overlooks Plaza de mayo. The church has been rebuilt several times now possessing a mixture of architectural styles. But the interior of the church has kept its statues and altarpieces from the 18th century, including its Neo-Baroque and Neo-Renaissance decorations.

This Greco Roman style palace is home of the Argentine National Congress. This government building was built between 1898 and 1906 and is now a National Historic Landmark of Argentina. Although it was inaugurated in 1906, it was not until 1946 that the aesthetic details were complete. On top of the entrance, you will see a quadriga, which is the sculptor Victor de Pol’s work.

The Palacio Barolo is located in the neighborhood of Monserrat in Buenos Aires. Considered as a landmark office building, it contains a Spanish school for foreigners, a couple of travel agencies and other offices. It was declared as a National Historic Monument in 1997. When it was built, it was still South America’s tallest building.
