Seven Wonders of China

The Great Wall of China is a collection of stonem brick, wood and other materials built to serve as a protective barrier along the east to west border of China. A survey measuring all branches of the wall find the length to total 13,171 miles (21,196 km).

The Terracotta Army, including over 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses, and 150 calvary horses, serve as a depiction the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. They were buried with the emperor in 209 BC.

The Magao Caves, also known as the Magao Grottoes or the Caves of the Thousand Buddhas, represent a collection of 492 temples outside Dunhuang. The caves contain some of the best examples of buddhist artwork.

The Leshan Giant Buddha measuring 233 feet (71 m) high is the tallest stone Buddha statue in the world, and the tallest pre-modern statue in the world. The statue faces Mount Emei and is found near the city of Leshan.

The Beijing National Aquatics Center, also known as the Nationa Aquatics Center or more affectionately as the Water Cube. It was built for the 2008 summer Olympics where 25 records where set. It was converted into a waterpark and reopened in 2010.

The Beijing National Stadium, affectionately known as the Bird's Nest, was built for the 2008 summer Olympics. The stadium will hold over 80,000 individuals.

The Forbidden City served as the imperial palace from the Ming dynasty to the end of the Qing dynasty. Found in the heart of Beijing, the Forbidden City now serves as the home of the Palace Museum. A UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, also known as the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, is a Buddhist temple built in 652. It was originally five stories high until it was rebuilt in 704 under Empress Wu Zetian. It currently stands at a height of 210 feet (64 m).

The Jin Mao Tower is an 88 story skyscraper located in Shanghai and serves as one of the most distinctive cityscape landmarks. It is the 7th tallest structure in the world. It can withstand typhoon winds up to 200 km an hour.

The Longsheng Rice Terraces are located about 100 km from Guilin in Longsheng County. They are built on mountian slopes between 600 to 800 m above sea level. They were created over 650 years ago.

The Longmen Grottoes, also known as Longmen Caves, are one of the best examples of Chinese Buddhist artwork. The cave holds tens of thousands of Buddha statues along with his disciples. The statues range in size from 1 inch (25 mm) to 57 feet (17 m).

Macau Tower, more fully known as Macau Tower Convention & Entertianment Center, measures 1,109 feet (338 m) high. It features an observation deck with panoramic views, restaurants, theaters, shopping, and the Skywalk X - an exciting stroll around the outer rim of the tower. You can also bungee jump from the tower.

The Shaolin Monastery, or Shaolin Temple, is a Chan Buddhist temple on Mount Song. The monastery is renowned for its relationship with martial arts. It is the most popular monestary in the western world. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Taipei 101 was previously known as the Taipei World Financial Center. It was the tallest building in the world until 2011. Taipei 101 features 101 floors above the ground with five floors underneath. It is an iconic landmark for China.

The Potala Palace was the primary residence for the Dalai Lama until 1959. Today it serves as a museum and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The building meaures 400 meters by 350 meters. There are 13 stories with over 1,000 rooms, 10,000 shrines, and over 200,000 statues.

The Oriental Pearl Tower is a TV and radio tower in Shanghai. It is an iconic landmark with distinct features. It is 1,535 feet (468 m) and was the tallest structure in China until 2007. It features various LED lighting at night adding to the character of the building.

Saint Sophia is also known as the Cathedral of the Holy Wisdom of God or Saint Sophia Cathedral in Harbin. Contructed in 1907 as a Russian Orthodox church. The church reaches a height of 175 feet (53.3 m). Today, it serves as a architecture and art museum.

Younghe Temple is also known as Yonghe Lamasery or Lama Temple. It is a monastery of the Geluk School of Tibetan Buddhism. The structure reflects a combination of Han Chinese and Tibetan styles. The temple is located in Beijing.

The Temple of Heaven, also known as Alter of Heaven is a complex or religious buildings that hosted ceremonies of prayer to Heaven for good haravest. It is seen as a Taoist temple. The Temple of Heaven is located in Beijing.
