Seven Wonders of Zimbabwe

The Mana Pools National Park is most famous for being home to some of the world’s most beautiful elephants. The Park does not only welcome elephants but also 380 species of birds, Nile crocodiles, large hippo pods and several black rhinos. Mana Pools is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Great Zimbabwe National Monument features the remains of what used to be a city in Zimbabwe’s southeastern hills. Great Zimbabwe used to be the Kingdom of Zimbabwe’s capital during the Iron Age. The area encompasses 1,780 acres (722 hectares) and was able to accommodate 18,000 people. The monument is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Matobo Hills is a formation of granite landforms so distinct, that when they are packed into a tight area, such landforms form a sea of hills as they rise up. Due to the interaction of the inhabitants of the Matobo area, there have been so many rock formations, adding to and producing exceptional rock art collections.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site located on the Khami River. The monument encompasses 108 hectares. The Khami Ruins National Movement is comprised of platforms of dry-stone walled structures, that is said to be a Stone Age culture development. The Mambo or the Chief lived on the Hill Ruin site’s north side.

Lake Kariba is the largest artificial lake in the world. It is also the world’s largest reservoir by volume. It was created between 1958 to 1963 as the Kariba Dam was completed. The Lake is more than 140 miles (223 km) long and is 20 miles 40 km) wide. Lake Kariba’s encompasses 2,150 square miles (5,580 sq. km).

Hwange National Park is Zimbabwe’s largest game reserve and national park. The National Park is situated in between the Victoria Falls and Bulawayo. Featuring a large collection of wildlife, this is a safari goers haven and wildlife bucket list destination.

Matusadona National Park is located on Lake Kariba’s shores. The Park actually features assorted fauna and flora and encompasses an area of 1,400 square kilometers. Matusadona offers a ready food source for the wildlife, which is why there is a large population of mammals in the park.

The Chizarira National park is a 490,000-acre national park of Zimbabwe. With its size, Chizarira is known to be one of the largest in the country, but it is not as popular as the other national parks. The sceneries in the national park have been described to be majestic, including its wildlife populations.

Found in Zimbabwe’s southeastern lowveld, the Gonarezhou National Park covers at least 5,000 square kilometers. The term Gonarezhou means place of many elephants. Within the park there are 147 mammal species, not less than 116 reptile species, 34 frog species and 500 bird species.
