Seven Wonders of Kenya

Mount Kenya, in Mount Kenya National Park, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997, but had a forest reserve and biosphere recognition prior to that. Mount Kenya reaches a peak of 17,057 feet (5,199 m). The mountain also possess holy significance for locals.

Amboseli National Park is located in Kenya’s Rift Valley Park, specifically in the district of Kajiado. It is part of an ecosystem sized at 8,000 square kilometers. The National Park encompasses 392 square kilometers. One of the highlights is the view of Mount Kilimanjaro the park provides.

Lake Nakuru is one of the soda lakes of the Kenya Lake System. The Lake’s elevation is at 1,754 meters above sea level and lies to Nakuru’s south side. Nakuru is translated into dust or dusty place. The highlight of the lake is the collection of flamingos that line up to the shore to feed on the algae found around the lake.

Samburu National Reserve is home to Kamunyak, the lioness who is popular for the adoption of oryx calves. The Samburu National Reserve has a size of 165 square kilometers and its altitude ranges from 2,624 to 4,035 feet (800 to 1,230 m) above sea level. A great wildlife collection awaits explorers.

The Tsavo East National Park is one of Kenya’s largest parks, measured at 13,747 square kilometers. The park opened in April of 1948 and can be found in the Taru Desert, an area that is known to be semi-arid. The Tsavo River flows from the middle of the park.

Meru National Park has an area of 870 square kilometers and is one of Kenya’s most famous parks. This Kenyan Game park experiences rainfall so abundant that it gives the national park lush swamps and tall grass. The park is actually home to a wide range of animals such as leopards, cheetahs, elephants, and black rhinoceros.

The huge game reserve was named in honor of the inhabitants of Masai Mara, who are called the Massai people. The national reserve is known for its huge population of cheetahs, lions and leopards. It is also frequented by zebra during its annual migration. The migration is one of Africa's Seven Natural Wonders.

The Treetops Hotel is found within Kenya’s Aberdare National Park. The hotel provides a view of Mount Kenya. Treetops was opened by Eric Walker in 1932, and was built originally as a tree house, as it was constructed on the tops of trees. Although destroyed by guerrillas in 1954, Treetops has been rebuilt.
