The Registan the most significant place during the Timurid dynasty.  It was the public square and the name actually translates “sandy place.”  It features three madrasahs.

The Tilla Kari Madrasa was commissioned after the passing of Shir Dar madrasa. It was intended to be the largest and most decorated structure in the Registan Square.

Dzhuma Mosque is located in Tashkent is also called Jama Mosque. It was constructed in 1451 by Sheikh Uboydullo.

The origin of Mir-i-Arab Madrasah is not known. It is believe that construction was attributed to Sheikh Abdullah Yamani.

Sher Dor Madrasah is part of the magnificent Registan. It features tiger mosaics on each madrassa. Construction occurred in the 17th century.

Kunya-Ark Citadel is a complex fortress that featured a home for Khan, his family and other dignitaries, a reception hall, a mint, stables, guardhouse and more.

Itchan Kala, also called Ichon Qala, was built over 600 years. This part of the town Khiva, actually translates, “inside the walls.”

Ulugbek Medressa is on the west side of the original medressa. It is where they believe Ulugbek taught mathematics, philosophy, and astronomy.

Kalta-Minor Minaret is a iconic landmark of the city (Khiva). It reaches a height of 29 meters and the foundation is 15 meters.

The Amir Timur or Ak-Saray Palace was one of the most magnificent monumental buildings.

Gur-e Amir or Guri Amir is a mausoleum that honors the Asian conqueror Tamerlane. It served as a precursor and model for future mausoleums such as the Taj Mahal.

Chashma-Ayub Mausoleum is located in Bukhara. The name means “Job’s well.” The story is that Job visited the place and created a well by striking the ground with his staff.

Abdul Aziz Khan Madrassah was constructed in 1652. It is now a museum of wood carving artwork.

Fort Bukhara, also called the Ark, is a large fortress located in Bukhara. It was constructed in the 5th century. It was used as a fortress until it fell to Russia in 1920. Today it is a tourist attraction.
