Seven Wonders of South Africa

The Table Mountain is a wonder of South Africa, as it features a flat top, which has become a landmark of the country. The mountain can be seen on Cape Town’s flag and other symbols of the local government. The view from the Table Mountain’s top has been said to be one of Africa’s best and epic views.

Drakensberg means Dragon Mountains. The Great Escarpment surrounds the Southern African’s plateau, or specifically its central part. Looking up from below, the Drakensberg is part of the cliff that looks like a mountain range, which is why it was dubbed as the Dragon Mountains.

The Blyde River Canyon can be found in Mpumalanga, in South Africa. The Canyon’s length is measured to be about 16 Miles (25 km) and around 2,461 feet (655 m) deep. One of the famous features of the canyon is that it is made up of red sandstone. Mariepskop is the highest point peaking at 6,378 feet (1,944 m).

The Cradle of Humankind became is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The site is home to the world famous Mrs. Ples or to be more scientific, the Australophotecus Africanus, a 2.3 million year-old fossil. Dr. Robert Broom and John Robinson found this fossil in 1947.

The Tsitsikamma National Park is more famously known as a coastal reserve as it features a dramatic coastline, native forests and what is called the Otter Trail. The national park extends about 50 miles (80 km) along the coastline. Tsitsikamma comes from the words tse-tsesa, which means clear, and gami, which means water.

This patch of land found in Cape Peninsula, is one of the most prominent tourist attractions in South Africa. Cape point is both scenic and mountainous, and it runs for more or less thirty kilometers north south. Cape Point can be found inside the Table Mountain National Park, in the section of the Good Hope Cape. This section, although generally wild, is beautifully undeveloped, becoming the best habitat for seabirds.

Karoo National Park is a wildlife reserve that was found in 1979. The semi-desert has an area of 296.5 square miles (767.9 sq km). It is well known because of its isolated location and its being habitat to various desert animals, including the Verreaux’s Eagle.

Kruger National Park is the largest national park in the continent. It is larger than the entire country of Israel. It serves as a home to an array and abundance of animal species such as cheetahs, elephant shrews, lions and many more.

Discovered by a farm owner in the 1780s, Cango Caves now exists to be one of the oldest caves in the world based on studies. It is a Historical Monument for the country and features stalagmites and stalactites throughout the inside the cave.
