Seven Wonders of Russia

The Cathedral of Christ the Saviour is located in Moscow near the Moskva River.  It reaches a height of 338 feet (103 m).  It is the tallest Orthodox Christian church in the world.

St. Basil Cathedral, also called Cathedral of Vasily the Blessed, is a church in the Red Square of Moscow. It currently serves as a museum. It reaches a height of 156 feet (47.5 m).

Peterhof Palace is actually a collection of palaces and gardens found in St. Petersburg. Peterhof Palace is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood, also called Church on Split Blood or the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ, is located in St. Petersburg. Construction was completed in 1907.

The Moscow Kremlin is a fortified complex that serves as the official residence of the President of Russia. The name Kremlin translates, “fortress inside a city.” Construction was completed in 1495.

The Izmaylovo Kremlin is a wedding complex constructed in the architectural style of a medieval Russian citadel.

The Kul Sharif Mosque, or Qolsarif Mosque, is located in Kazan. Construction was completed in 2005 and at the time it was believe to be the largest mosque in Europe.

Kazan Cathedral, also called Cathedral of Our Lady Kazan, is a Russian Orthodox Church. It honors Our Lady of Kazan. Construction was completed in 1818. The height reaches 71.5 meters.

Saint Isaac’s Cathedral, or Isaaklevskly Sobor, is the largest Russian Orthodox cathedral in the city. It is the fourth largest cathedral in the world. It honors Saint Isaac of Dalmatia.

The Catherine Palace is located in St. Petersburg where it served as the summer residence of historical Russian tsars. It is a Rococo palace with construction completing in 1756.

Novgorod Kremlin was a fortress constructed between 1484 and 1490. There are historical records dating construction back to 1044.

The Church of Transfiguration is the most prominent part of the Kizhi Pogost, which is a historical site from the 17th century. This iconic church features 22 domes, reaches a height of 37 meters making it one of the tallest wooden buildings in Russia.

Ivolginsky Datsan is a Buddhist Temple located in Buryatia. Construction was completed and it opened in 1945.

The Solovetsky Monastery was the grandest citadel of Christianity found in the Russian North. It was converted into a Soviet prison and labor camp between 1926 and 1939. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and today serves as a museum.

The Peter and Paul Fortress is the original citadel of St. Petersburg. It opened in 1703 by Peter the Great. Today it serves as the cornerstone of the State Museum of Saint Petersburg History.
