Seven Wonders of Qatar

Qatar State Mosque, also called the Imam Abdul Wahhab Mosque, is the largest mosque in Qatar serving up to 30,000 people.  It feature 28 large domes over the central hall and another 65 around the outside walls.  The mosque honors traditional aspects while introducing a modern update.

The Katara Amphitheatre was constructed in 2008 covering # square feet (3,275 sq km). It leveraged the traditional Greek theatre concept while incorporating culturally relevant Islamic features. It holds up to 5,000 people.

Zubarah Fort, also called Fort Zubarah, is a historic Qatari military fortress constructed in 1938. It is the largest archeological site in the Qatar peninsula. The roof was jury-rigged by incorporating compressed mud.

The Singing Sand Dunes, also called whistling sand or barking sand, is a whistle like sound that comes from the wind blowing through the sand dunes outside Doha. The dunes must contain sand, which is between .1 to .5mm in diameter, containing silica, and in a climate of a certain humidity.

Aspire Tower is the tallest building in Qatar reaching a height of 984 feet (300 m). It is also known as the Torch Hotel, Khalifa Sports Tower, and the Doha Olympic Tower. Construction was completed in 2007.

The Souq Waqif is a historically significant souq in Doha and has been for over a hundred of years. It is a renowned shopping destination featuring garments, spices, souvenirs, and other handcrafted treasures. It is a leading tourist destination for Qatar.

The Doha Cityscape offers a collection of some of the most unique buildings in one setting. One building after the other provides intriguing architectural character. It is the capital and largest city of Qatar housing 60% of the country’s population.

Museum of Islamic Art was constructed in 2006 pulling from ancient Islamic architecture with unique designs integrated in. It was the first of its kind in Arab States of the Persian Gulf encompassing (45,000 sq. m). It is one of the world’s most complete collections of Islamic artifacts.

The Barzan Towers, also called the Umm Salal Mohammed Fort Towers, were constructed in 1910. Built by the sea to monitor pearl divers and approaching ships, the towers reach a height of 52.5 feet (16 m).

The Sheikh Faisal Al-Thani Museum features five halls and the antiques collected by Sheikh Faisal since the early 1960s. There are over three thousand exhibits including rare wildlife. It is open to all nationalities.
