Seven Wonders of Namibia

Etosha National Park serves as a home to the tallest elephants in Africa, which is one of the reasons why it is the top wildlife destination in Namibia. Within the national park, endangered black rhinos and 91 other mammal species can also be found.

The Fish River Canyon is the largest canyon in Africa. What is amazing about this canyon is that there are more than 160 kilometers of rocks that have been naturally carved out. Some have been carved so deep that there are canyon walls that are more than 500 meters high.

The Sossusvlei is a clay and salt pan found in the Namib Desert’s southern part. The pan is actually surrounded by high red dunes. Sossusvlei is part of the Namib-Naukluft National Park in Namibia. The name Sossuvlei actually means “dead-end marsh”.

The Swakopmund is a German term for “Mouth of the Swakop”. Swakopmund is a Namibian City found on the country’s western part. The town has been considered a beach resort because of its beautiful architecture; inspired form the German colonial styles.

That group of bald granite peaks, also called bornhardts, situated in the middle of Swakopmund and Usakos is actually called the Spiztkoppe. The Spiztkoppe is the German term for “pointed dome”. The granite of Spitzkoppe reaches a peak of 5,800 feet (1,700 m).

The Caprivi Strip is described as a narrow protrusion of Namibia. The area has a rich wildlife and mineral resources. The Caprivi Strip gives the Zambezi River access that can serve as a trading route to the East Coast of Africa.

Skeleton Coast is actually Namibia’s coast of Atlantic Ocean, found in the northern part. The place was called the “Land God Made in Anger”, which was labeled by the Namibian interior Bushmen. Portuguese sailors have also called the region as “The Gates of Hell”.

The Twyfelfontein is Afrikaans for uncertain spring. It is a site that features rock engravings that are ancient. The place has a spring located in a valley. The valley is edged by the sandstone table mountain slopes, which receive just a bit of rainfall.

The Kolmanskp is Afrikaans for Coleman’s hill. The place has been considered a ghost town located in the Namib Desert of Namibia. The town got its name from a transport driver, Johnny Coleman, who left his ox wagon during a sand storm.
