Seven Wonders of Mountains

Mount Everest is one of the world's Seven Wonders of Nature.  Located Nepal on the border of China, it is the highest mountain in the world.  Mount Everest reaches a peak of 29,029 feet (8,848 m) making it the highest spot on the earth.

Mount Kilimanjaro is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa.  Located in Tanzania, it is the tallest mountain in Africa and the tallest free standing mountain in the world.  Mount Kilimanjaro reaches a summit of 19,341 feet (5,895 m) at Uhuru Peak.

Mount McKinley is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of N. America.  It is the tallest mountain in North America and features the largest vertical ascent above sea level from base to summit in the world.  Mount McKinley, also called Denali, reaches a summit of 20,237 feet (6,168 m).

Mount Fuji is the tallest mountain in Japan.  As an active stratovolcano, it reaches a peak of 12,389 feet (3,776 m).    It is one of Japan's three holy mountains and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Alpamayo is an ice mountain located in the Peruvian Andes.  It represents a sixty degree stepp mountain that is almost a perfect pyramid of ice.  It reaches a summit of 19,511 feet (5,947 m) and was labled by photographers as "The Most Beautiful Mountain in the World."

Mount Blanc, also called Monte Bianco, is the highest mountain in the Alps and the European Union.  It reaches a summit of 15,781 feet (4,810 m).  It t is affectionately known as the "white mountain," or the "white one."  It is on the border of France and Italy.

The Matterhorn, also called Monte Cervino or Mont Cervin, is a mountain located in the Pennine Alps on the border of Switzerland and italy.  It reaches a summit of 14,692 feet (4,478 m).  It is renowned for its four steep faces and unique shape.

Cho Oyo is the sixth largest mountain in the world.  It reaches a summit of 26,906 feet (8,021 m).  The name translates to the meaning "Turguoise Goddess."  IT is located on the Tibet Nepal border.  It is the easiest of the 8,000+ meter mountains to climb.

K2, also known as Chhogori/Qogir, Ketu/Kechu, and Mount Godwin-Austen, is the second highest mountain in the world.  It is located on the border of Pakistan and China.  K2 reaches a summit of 28,251 feet (8,611 m).  It has the second highest fatality rate for climbers.

Half Dome is a granite mountain located in Yosemite National Park of the United States.  It reaches a summit of 4,737 feet (1,444 m).  It is renowned for its unique shape carved in half by glacier movement creating the iconic "half dome" look.

Yellow Mountain is part of the Huangshan mountain range, one of the most picturesque ranges in the world.  It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site most notable for the scenery that features peculiarly shaped granite peaks, mystic clouds, and Huangshan pine trees and other unique vegetation painting the mountain sides.

Ama Dablam is located in the Himalayas of Nepal.  The summit reaches a height of 22,493 feet (6,856 m).  The name means "mother's necklace."  It is the third most popular Himalayan peaks to climb.

Makalu is the fifth highest mountain in the world.  It reaches a summit of 27,766 feet (8,463 m).  It is located southeast of Everest on the border of Nepal and China.  It features a fairly symmetrical four sided pyramide shape.

Mount Ararat is a volcanic snow-capped mountain in Turkey. Historically, it is recognized as the resting place for Noah's ark. It reaches a height of 16,854 feet (5,137 m).
