Seven Wonders of Mexico

The Copper Canyon or the Barranca del Cobra is a group of canyons. The group is formed by six canyons located in the Sierra Madre Occidental in Chihuahua, Mexico. The Copper Canyon’s overall system is bigger than the Grand Canyon, and its portions are deeper as well.

The Kukulcan Pyramid is Chich’en Itza’s central pyramid, which was believed to have been built over a pre-existing temple in 800AD. The pyramid’s base is 53.3 meters wide, the biggest in Chich’en Itza. The Kukulcan Mayan Pyramid has a towering height of 24 meters.

The Chichen Itza is another UNESCO World Heritage Site that was built by the Mayans during the pre-Colombian city.  Chichen Itza used to be of the biggest Mayan cities and could have had the most diverse population in the Maya world.

The Palace of Fine Arts building is Mexico City’s most important cultural center. The exterior design of the building is mainly Neoclassical and Art Nouveau, while the interior is Art Deco. The center’s facade is made of white Italian Carrera marble, while the roof covering the building’s center is made of crystal.

The National Palace of Mexico has been the official palace of Mexico’s ruling class since the Aztec empire. The palace is the official seat of Mexico’s federal executive. It measures more than 200 meters long, which fills Zócalo’s entire east side.

The Chapultepec Castle is called the Castillo de Chapultepec in Spanish. The name came from the word chapoltepēc, which mean “at the grasshopper’s hill.” Chapultepec Castle is actually the only royal castle in North America.

Mexico City Metropolitan Cathedral is fully named The Metropolitan Cathedral of the Assumption of Mary of Mexico City.  Construction was completed in 1813 with the length measuring 360 feet (110 m) and a width of 179 feet (54.5 m).  It is the largest cathedral in the Americas.

Hospicio Cabañas was built to serve as four functions: an orphanage, a workhouse, a hospital and an almshouse. Established in 1791 by the Bishop of Guadalajara, the Hospicio is one of the biggest and oldest hospital complexes in the Americas.
