Seven Wonders of Jordan

Petra is a historical and archaeological site in the southern part of the country. It is also called the Rose City. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is renowned for its rock-cut architecture and water conduit system.

The Dead Sea, also called Sea of Salt is a salt lake bordering Jordan, Israel and Palestine. The shoreline, at 1,401 feet (427 m) below sea level, represents the lowest elevation on land. The minerals and richness of the sea generate billions of dollars as resources and tourism.

Wadi Rum, also called the Valley of the moon, is a valley cut into the desert sandstone and granite rock. It is the largest wadi in the country. The elevation is 5,741 feet (1,750 m), and it encompasses 280 square miles (720 sq km).

Qasr Amra, also called Quseir Amra or Qusayr Amra, is a desert castle that was constructed in the 8th century. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It represents early Islamic art and architecture.

The King Abdullah I Mosque was constructed between 1982 and 1989. It holds approximately 3,000 individuals underneath the iconic blue mosaic dome.

The Cave of the Patriarchs is also known as the Cave of Machpelah, the Sanctuary of Abraham, and the Ibrahimi Mosque. It is believe to be the burial place of Abraham. The subterranean chambers are located below the mosque.

Nymphaeum, also called nymphaion, is a monument consecrated to the nymphs. It was constructed in 191 AD. Water cascaded through seven carved lion’s heads before finishing in the basins below.

The Arch of Hadrian is located in Jerash. It is an 11-meter gateway. It was constructed to honor the visit of the Roman Emperor Hadrian in the winter of 129.

The Roman Theatre is an ancient Roman theatre located in Amman. It was constructed between 138 – 161 CE. It seated 6,000 spectators. It was divided into three horizontal sections.

TAn ancient Roman monument shaped with four sides and a gate on all four sides. The Northern Tetrapylon is located in Jerash.

The Temple of Zeus is located in Jerash. It dates back to 80 BC. It is located on top of a plateau.

The Temple of Artemis, also called the Jerash Temple of Artemis, is a Roman temple that was constructed on the highest point of the city. Today it is ruins, but still one of the most remarkable landmarks of the area.

The Ma’in Hot Springs are located between madaba and the dead sea. It features a series of falls and pools that are still heated between 40 and 60oC.
