Seven Wonders of England

The official residence of the British monarch, Buckingham Palace can be found in Westminster City. The palace was built in 1705, but only in 1837 did it become the official London residence. The Palace has 775 rooms, 19 of those being State Rooms and 52 are Royal and guest bedrooms.

The Tower of London has served as the Royal residence, an armory, treasury, a menagerie, a public records office and also the home of the Crown Jewels of the UK.  It showcases the wildlife of the zoo.  It was built in 1078 with expansions occuring up until 1399.

Westminster Abbey, as a historical church, is the traditional place where coronations and burials of British monarchs are held. The Abbey is home to the most significant collection of tombs and memorials in the UK.

Stonehenge is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Believed to be built anywhere between 3000BC to 2000BC, the Stonehenge is a megalithic stone monument composed of 150 huge rocks that are positioned in a circular pattern. It is located in Wiltshire in Southern England.

The Roman Baths was constructed in 70 AD as a socializing and grand bathing complex. 1,170,000 liters of steaming water from the spring flows to the bathing pool everyday at 45°C. The spring water was believed to be a miracle from the gods.

Hadrian’s Wall extends 80 miles long from sea to sea. It was believed to have been built to separate barbarians from the Romans. Aside from the separation, the Wall was also built to serve as customs posts. Built in AD 122, Hadrian’s Wall is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Kew Royal Botanic Gardens has the world’s largest collection of living plants, containing more than 30,000 kinds of plants. It also features a herbarium, which has more than seven million plant specimens, also the largest in the world. The Kew Gardens was built in 1759 making it over 250 years old.

The White Cliffs of Dover reach a height of 350 feet (110 m) and stretch along the coastline of England facing France. The white base of the cliffs is created by chalk and accented with black flint. The White Cliffs of Dover extend from the town of Dover in both directions.

Blenheim Palace is the only non-royal and non-episcopal country house in England that was given the title of the palace. It is one of the largest houses in England and was built between 1705 and 1722. Blenheim is best known as the ancestral home of Sir Winston Churchill.  The Blenheim Palace officially became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.

Jurassic Coast is known as a natural wonder in Britain. The coast features a stretch of 155 kilometers, from Orcombe Point to Old Harry Rocks. Jurassic Coast covers 3 geological periods equivalent to 180 million years.  This is the second wholly natural UNESCO World Heritage Site in the United Kingdom.

Canterbury Cathedral is one of the oldest and most famous Christian buildings in England. This is the cathedral of the leader of the Church of England, the Archbishop of Canterbury. The cathedral was built in 597AD and rebuilt completely from 1070 to 1077. It features 20 bells in its three towers and a collection of almost 30,000 books that were printed before the 20th century.
