Seven Wonders of Ecuador

The Church and Monastery of St. Francis is a Roman Catholic church built in the 16^th century in Quito, Ecuador. It is situated in front of Plaza de San Francisco, which has the same name. The church is actually the largest architectural ensemble out of all the Latin American historical structures.

The Ingapirca is a Cañar Province town that is part of Ecuador. The town was named after the Inca temple site and palace. The town contains the largest Inca ruins that are known in Ecuador. It features the temple of the sun.  The name Ingapirca literally means "Inca Walls."

The La Rotonda is a monument that is part of the Ecuador history. This monument is situated in Guayaquil’s waterfront walkway, and helps celebrate the mysterious meeting of two liberators.  To this day, no one knows what the two discussed during the meeting.

The Carondelet Palace is the government seat of Ecuador, which can be found in Quito. In 2007, Ecuador’s president, Rafael Correa, converted the palace into a museum that is open to the public.  It has been home to many of the country's presidents over the many decades.

The Guayaquil Metropolitan Cathedral is officially known as the Cathedral of Saint Peter. This cathedral can be found right in the heart of Ecuador’s Guayaquil. The cathedral building was built between 1924 and 1937.

The Moorish Clock Tower was imported from England. The clock was originally housed in a small tower and was inaugurated in 1842. In 1903, the leaders decided to move the clock to the Town Hall.

Also known as the Church of the Society of Jesus, this Jesuit church is situated in Quito, Ecuador. The nave is decorated with woodcarvings, gold leaf and gilded plaster. The la Compañia is said to be one of the Spanish Baroque Architectures most significant works.

The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is also commonly referred to as the New Cathedral of Cuenca. The new Cathedral was built for the purpose of replacing the Old Cathedral because there was not enough space for the churchgoers anymore.

The Galapagos Islands represent one of the most unique encounters with nature.  The Galapagos are an archipelago of volcanic islands.  The islands are famous for the unique endemic species that call it home.  Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978 and as a biosphere reserve in 1985.

The Basilica del Voto is a Roman Catholic church located in the historic district of Quito.  It is the largest neo-Gothic basilica in the Americas.  It measures 460 feet (140 m) long, 115 feet (35 m) wide, and it is 98 feet (30 m) high.  The towers are 377 feet (115 m) high.
