Seven Wonders of Cambodia

Angkor Wat, was originally a Hindu temple but later converted to a Buddhist temple. It is the third largest religious monument in the world. It was built in the 12th century and features a 2.2 mile (3.6 km) outer wall. The temple is renowned for grandeur and harmony architecture.

The Royal Palace is a collection of buildings that also serve as the home of the king of Cambodia. It was constructed in the 19th century. The collection of buildings includes the Silver Pagoda.

The Bayon is a renowned temple constructed in the 12th century. It was originally the official state Buddhist temple, it was alternate between serving as a Hindue and Buddhist temple.

Angkor Thom was constructed in the 12th century by King Jayavarman VII. It served as the capital city of the Khmer empire.

Banteay Kdei, translated “a citadel of chambers,” is a Buddhist temple. It was constructed in the 12th century. It features the Bayon architectural style.

The Independence Monument is located in the capital of Cambodia. It was constructed in 1958 in recognition of the independence from France that occurred in 1953. It is modeled after the lotus-shaped stupa seen at Angkor Wat.

Beng Mealea, is a temple fashioned after Angkor Wat character. It was constructed in the 12th century as a Hindu temple. However, it reveals carvings that reflect Buddhist motifs.

The Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Monument is a massive concrete monument that honors the alliance between the two countries. It was constructed in the late part of the 1970s and is located in the Botum Park.

Bakong is a temple constructed in the 9th century. It was the first temple mountain of sandstone and served as the official state temple of King Indravarman I.

Koh Ker represents a remote archaeological site located in the northern part of the country. It is dense with jungle with limited population. There are over 180 sanctuaries over 31 square miles (81 sq km), however only about 24 of them can be visited because of the density of the jungle.

Ta Prohm is a temple constructed in the Bayon style. It was built in the 12th century and was completed in 1186. It is one of the most visited attractions in the country.

Banteay Srei is a temple constructed in the 10th century to honor Shiva, the Hindu god. It is constructed mostly out of red sandstone. It has garnered the nickname, “jewel of Khmer art.”
