Seven Wonders of Bridges

The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge extending across the Golden Gate strait.  The total length of the bridge is 8,980 feet (2,737 m).  It was constructed in 1933 with an elevation of 220 feet (67 m) and a height of 746 feet (227 m).  It is the most famous and iconic landmark bridge in the United States.

The Octavio Frias de Oliveira Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge that extends across the Pinheiros River in Sao Paulo, Brazil.  The bridge reaches a height of 453 feet (138 m) while connecting Roberto Marinho Avenue with Marginal Pinheiros.  The total length is 5,200 feet (1,600 m) and construction was completed in 2008.

Sydney Harbor Bridge is a steel through arch bridge that extends across Sydney Harbour.  The bridge carries rail, automobiles, bicycles, and pedestrians.  It reaches a height of 440 feet (134 m).  It was constructed in 1932 and is the most iconic landmark bridge in Australia and one of the most popular in the world.

The Tower Bridge is a combination bascule and suspension bridge that cross over the River Thames in London.  The name comes from the proximity to the Tower of London.  Contruction completed in 1894 and reaches a height of 801 feet (244 m).  It extends 800 feet (244 m) in total length.

The Helix Bridge is a pedestrian bridge that extends across Marina Bay in Singapore connecting Marina South with Marina Center.  It extends (280 m) in total length.  Construction was completed and bridge openedd April 2010.

Rialto Bridge extends across the Grand Canal in Venice, Italy.  It is the oldest bridge across the canal and one of four bridges that extend across the Grand Canal.  It reaches a height of 24 feet 97.32 m) and a length of 94.5 feet (28.8 m).  Construction was completed in 1591 and it serves as a pedestrian bridge.

Th Vasco da Gama Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge with viaducts running alongside.  The bridge extends across the Tagus River in Lisbon, Portugal.  It is the longest bridge in Europe spanning 10.7 miles (17.2 km).  Construction was completed in March 1998.  It reaches a height of 509 feet (155 m).

The Henderson Waves Bridge is a pedestrian bridge.  It spans across 899 feet (274 m) connecting Mount Faber Park with Telok Blangah Hill Park.  It is the highest pedestrian bridge in Singapore.  The wave forms are lit with LED lamps in the evening creating a beautiful scene.

Khaju Bridge, also known as Kajoo Bridge, is the most notable bridge in Iran.  Built by the Persian Safavid King in 1650 CE to serve as both a dam and a bridge.  The bridge feartures 24 arches extending (133 m) across the Zahandeh River.

Ponte Vecchio is a Medieval stone closed spandrel segmental arch bridge that extends across the Arno River in Florence, Italy.  Renowned for the shops built along it.  It is 276 feet across with the longest span extending 98 feet (30 m).  The arches range from 11.5 to 14.5 feet (3.5 to 4.4 m) high.

The Sutong Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge that extends across the Yangtze River in China. It has a total length of 26,923 feet (8,206 m). Construction was completed in May of 2008. It reaches a height of 1,004 feet (306 m). IT is the second tallest bridge in the world.

The Donghai Bridge extends 20.2 miles (32.5 km) connecting mainland Shanghai with the offshore port of Yangshan. It is one of the longest cross-sea bridges in the world. Construction was completed in December of 2005.

The Danyang-Kunshan Grand Bridge is the world's largest bridge extending 102.4 miles (164.8 km) along the Beijing-Shanghai high speed railway. Construction was completed in 2010. It is a railway bridge.

The Zhijinghe River Bridge is the highest arch bridge in the world. It extends 1,410 feet (430 m) across the Zhijinghe River. It is 294 meters high.

The Chengyang Bridge is a combination of bridge, corridor, veranda and Chinese pavilion. It is one of the mast aesthetically appealing of the bridge candidates. It extends 211 feet (64.4 m) across the Chengyang area. Construction was completed in 1912.

The Sidu River Bridge holds the distinction of being the highest bridge in the world. It is a 4,009 foot (1,222 m) suspension bridge that extends across the Sidu River. It crosses a 1,600 foot (500 m) deep valley surpassing the Royal Gorge and Beipanjiang River bridges in height.
