Seven Wonders of Belgium

The Triumphal Arch and the Parc du Cinquantenaire, also known as the Park of the Fiftieth Anniversary, is located in Brussels.  It encompasses 74 acres (30 hectres) and was contructed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Belgium independence.

The town hall for the city of Brussels was constructed during the Middle Ages with a Gothic architectural style. Construction was completed in 1420. It measures 315 feet (96 m).

Mont des Arts, also called Kunstberg, means “hill or mount of the arts.” It is a historic landmark located in Brussels.

The Royal Palace of Belgium is the official palace of the King and Queen of the Belgians. Although it is the center of the nation’s capital, it is not the official residence of the royal family. Construction was completed in 1934.

Tyne Cot, or the more complete name of Tyne Cot Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery and Memorial to the Missing, is a burial round for the dead of the First World War. It is the largest cemetery for Commonwealth forces in the world for any war.

The Botanical Gardens of Brussels were founded in 1826. Fifty-two sculptures were created between 1894 and 1898. The main structure is called Le Botanique, which serves as a cultural complex and music venue.

Gravensteen is a castle in Ghent that was built during the Middle Ages. The name means, “Castle of the Count.” It was constructed in 1180 by count Philip of Alsace.

Koekelberg, the National Basilica of the Sacred Heart, is a Roman Catholic Minor Basilica. Construction was completed in 1935. The green copper dome reaches a height of 292 feet (89 m). It is one of the 10 largest Roman Catholic churches based on area in the world.

The European Parliament, often shortened to EU Parliament or EP, is the building for the elected parliamentary institution of the European Union (EU). The Council of the European Union and the European Commission work here to administer the legislative function of the EU.

The Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula is a Roman Catholic church located in Brussels. It measures 374 feet (114 m) long, 187 feet (57 m) wide and the towers reaching a height of 210 feet (64 m). It serves as the co-cathedral of the Archbishop of Mechlin-Brussels.

Mini Europe is a miniature park found in Bruparck in Brussels. It features reproductions of European Union monuments at a scale of 1:25. There are 80 cities and 350 buildings represented. It extends over 24,000 square meters.

The Cathedral of Our Lady is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Antwerp and serves as the Diocese of Antwerp. It was consecrated in 1521. It measures 390 feet (120 m) long, 246 feet (75 m) wide, with a height reaching a peak of 404 feet (123 m).

The Church of Our Lady in Bruges dates back to the 13th century. The tower reaches a height of 400 feet (122 m). it is a Roman Catholic church featuring Gothic architectural style.

St. Nicholas Church is one of the oldest and most prominent landmarks in Ghent. Construction featured a Scheldt Gothic style and started in the 13th century.

The Antwerpen Centraal Railway Station, simply Antwerp Central, is the name of the main railway station located in Antwerp. It opened in August 1905. The station features four levels and 14 tracks.

The Leuven Town Hall is located in the Grote Market Square. Construction was completed in 1469 using Brabantine late Gothic architecture.
