Seven Wonders of Nature China

The Li River and Guilian valley and mountains is one of the most picturesque places in the world. The Li River and Karst mountains come together creating a canvass that inspires many artists and photographers from around the world.

Zhangjiajie National Park is a unique forest park featuring pillar like formations throughout the park.  It was established as China's first national forest park in 1982.  It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  One of the tallest illars stands 3,540 feet (1,080 m) high.

The Stone Forest, also known as Shilin, is a collection of limestone formations near Shilin. They appear from the ground like stalagmites creating a unique series of formations.  The Stone Forest is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Huangguoshu Waterfall translates, "yellow fruit tree waterfalls," and is one of the largest waterfalls in China and East Asia.  Baishui River is the source of the falls which reach a height of 255 feet (77.8 m) and extend 331 feet (101 m) across.

Jiuzhaigou valley is a nature reserve and national park located in the Min Mountains.  Features a vast collection of waterfalls, colorful lakes, and snow-capped peaks.  The highest point is 14,800 feet (6,600 m).  It is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Cho Oyo is the sixth highest mountain in the world reaching a peak at 26,906 feet (8,201 m) above sea level.  The name Cho Oyu is Tibetan for Turquoise Goddess.  It is considered the easiest peak over 26,000 feet to climb.

Silver Cave is a national AAAA level scenic spot near Guilin.  The cave is a floor-type cave with three layers.  The cave features a variety of stalactites that are crystal clear and sparkle like silver.  These unique stalactites warrant the name of the cave.

Kangchenjunga mountain is the third highest mountain in the world. The elevation reaches a peak of 28,169 feet (8,586 m). The mountain is part of the Himalayas and is near the border of China and Nepal. The mountain was first summeted in 1955.

Heaven Lake is on the border of China and N. Korea.  It is created in a caldera atop the volcanic Baekdu Mountain.  The lake has a surface elevation of 7,182 (2,189 m) and features a depth of 1,260 feet (384 m).  It may be covered in ice during the months of Nov-May.

The Taklimakan Desert, also known as Taklimakan or Teklimakan, is a desert bordered by the Kunlun Mountains in the northwest region of China.  The name means "place of ruins."  The desert exapnds 130,116 square miles (337,000 sq km).

The Red Flute Cave is a landmark and tourist attraction near Guilin.  It is a natural limestone cave.  The name comes from the reed growing outside the cave entrance.  The cave can be dated back to 792 AD as a place of interest.

Makalu is the fifth largest mountain in the world reaching a peak of 27,766 feet (8,463 m).  The mountain is located in the Himalayas and near the border of China and Nepal.  It has a unique four-sided pyramid structure making it rather picturesque.

Namtaso Lake, also known as Lake Nam, is a mountain lake on the border between Tibet and China.  The lake lies at an elevation of 15,479 feet (4,718 m).  It is a salk lake that covers 740 sqare miles.  Namtso is renowned as one of hte most beautiful places in the mountain ranges.

Mount Lu, also known as Lushan or Kuanglu, is one of the most renowned mountains in teh contry.  The park that houses the mountain is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  It is a unique oval shaped mountain.

The Hukou Waterfall is the largest waterfall on the Yellow River and the second larges waterfall in China.  The waterfall reaches a width of 164 feet (50 m) during the flood season with a height of 66 feet (20 m).  The rock faces and stepping features of the falls are more impressive when the water flow is less.
