Seven Natural Wonders

The Seven Natural Wonders of the World represent statistical significant feats of nature from around the world. Each wonder has something unique about it. In some cases, traditional or historical significance played a part in determining which wonders were included. There is always room for debate, however the original vision, splendor, and natural feat was bestowed upon these wonders of nature.

The Aurora Borealis, sometimes just called auroras, are more affectionately known as the Northern Lights. These auroras are nature’s fireworks or nature’s personal laser show creating an array of spectacular light creations across the sky. The Aurora Borealis may be experienced as waves or sheets of lights, a glow the fills the sky, or a series of streaks of lights that appear to be dancing across the sky.

The Grand Canyon is a massive gorge or canyon found in the state of Arizona in the United States. The canyon was created by the Colorado River. The Grand Canyon expands 277 miles (466 km) long, 4 to 18 miles (6.4 to 29 km) wide, and has a depth of over one mile (1.83 km). The majority of the Grand Canyon is protected by national park status. The remaining part of the canyon is on protected Indian reserve territory.

The Great Barrier Reef is the largest coral reef system in the world. There are over 2,900 separate reefs that collectively make up the Great Barrier Reef. The reef stretches over 1,600 miles (2,600 km). It is the only living organism that can be seen from outer space. The reef is located on the northwestern coastline of Australia off the coast of Queensland. There are several port cities providing access to the coral reef.

Mount Everest is a mountain located in the Himalayan mountain range near the border of Tibet, China and Nepal. Mount Everest reaches a summit at 29,029 feet (8,848 m). Mount Everest has the distinction of being one of the Seven Wonders of Nature and serves as the Ambassador to the Seven Natural Wonders of Asia.

Victoria Falls is a larger waterfall on the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe. Locally it is known as Mosi-oa-Tunya, which translates into “smoke that thunders.” Victoria Falls is one of the Seven Wonders of Nature and it also serves as the Ambassador to Africa’s Seven Wonders of Nature. The majority of the falls are experienced on the Zambia side of the falls, however Zimbabwe offers the most panoramic view of the falls. Zambia and Zimbabwe both provide national parks to protect Victoria Falls and the surrounding area.

Paricutin Volcano is located in Michoacan, Mexico. It is a cinder cone volcano that reaches a peak of 9,101 feet (2,74 m). Paricutin Volcano last erupted in 1952. Paricutin Volcano is one of the Seven Wonders of Nature and serves as an Ambassador to the Seven Wonders of Nature for North America. There have been many that challenge the inclusion of Paricutin for a variety of reason. It is the wonder that is most vulnerable for being replaced. If replaced, it will be done in the spirit of Paricutin.

The Harbor of Rio de Janeiro is also known as Guanabara Bay. The harbor is located by the city of Rio de Janeiro on the southeastern coastline of Brazil. The harbor is surrounded by granite monoliths and welcomes visitors to the city of Rio de Janeiro.
